History:

The FWPC got its start in the fall of 2005 when Cmdrmack brought a handful of nerf guns to school with him after visiting the College of Wooster in Ohio, and seeing that groups of college students seemed to enjoy holding nerf wars on their campus. Most of the nerfing activity involved Cmdrmack and his roommate shooing each other from across their dorm room with no real organization.

In the spring of 2006, there was an explosion of nerfing activity when a large freshman class brought with them their own nerf guns. Cmdrmack also began to explore the possibility of getting larger wars together and moved the wars, which had initially been just across a dorm room, out into the hallway, and eventually into the campus at large.

The first major war at Presbyterian College took place between Bailey Dormitory and Jacobs Hall, and was attended by eight people. After that event, a Facebook group of the same name was formed to keep members updated about events on campus. Shortly thereafter, a game of Nerf Mafia was organized, which brought many new members to the Facebook group, but didn't measurably increase the number of people participating in wars, which stayed between 8 and 10 participants at any given war for a majority of the year.

For most of the 2006-2007 school year, the wars were held indoors, with the most popular spots being Neville Hall, a historical landmark and home to the English, Religion, Philosophy, History, and Modern Foreign Language departments at the college. After breaking a chandelier on the first floor of Neville, the decision was made to hold the remaining wars either outdoors or in dormitories.

The end of the 2006-2007 school saw the founding of a "War Council" whose job was to organize wars on campus, and basically be the governing body of the group. There were four initial members of this group. NerfSemi, an occasional lurker at Nerfhaven, was among this group, which was designed to relieve the pressure of Cmdrmack, who had previously organized and attended a war every week or two.

Arsenal:

The Arsenal of the FWPC consists primarily of various spring pistols, the most popular of which are the Maverick REV-6 and the Nite Finder EX-3. The most popular primary among the members has become the Longshot CS-6 due to it's range and rate of fire advantages over other guns. There are currently 7 Longshots owned by clan members, and it has become somewhat of a status symbol. A Foam Warrior with a Longshot is a force to be approached cautiously at best. During the 2006-2007 year, most guns were centralized in Cmdrmack's personal arsenal, but this changed with a major push for members to own their own blasters in the fall of 2007.

Future Prospects:

The FWPC is pushing for a rise in the Southeast's Nerfing, which has all but disappeared. The establishment of PCNO, or Presbyterian College Nerf Out, marked a hopeful turning point in southern nerf, and it is expected to inspire other colleges to form their own Nerf Clubs.

Registered Student Organization

The Foam Warriores of Presbyterian College applied for Registered Student Organization status in early October 2007, and were approved by the Student Government Association on November 4, 2007. Full approval was received on November 29, 2007.

Being an RSO will allow for funding from the school to be used for supplies and tools for modifications. It will also allow for more recruitment and advertising at school functions.

Charter

In applying for RSO status, the FWPC drafted a charter, which reads as follows:

The Foam Warriors of Presbyterian College were organized with the idea of organizing occasional “Nerf Outs.” With the growing popularity of what was originally just a Facebook group, the decision was made to organize further and apply for RSO status.

As a Registered Student Organization, our goal is to provide an opportunity for students to share in fellowship and friendly competition, and a constructive outlet for stress. We also modify our nerf guns, to make them more accurate, powerful, and increase performance overall. These modifications teach some physics concepts as well as increase the overall enjoyment of the game.

Our foremost concern in both modifications and “Nerf Outs” is that all participants feel included and enjoy themselves. Therefore we also take special precautions to keep both participants and the overall campus safe:

- No Nerf Blasters are painted or modified to resemble actual firearms.

- Certain Nerf Blasters are banned from wars because they are painful and detract from the fun of the game.

- Wearing Eye Protection during “Nerf Outs”

- Take Special notice of non-participants so as to avoid accidentally shooting them.

- Stopping all play and moving to another location if asked by any student or faculty member.
