Background

Groove is one of the most prominent and active Nerfers within the Nerf Internet Community (or NIC). He holds no clan affiliation, however, maintains very strong bonds between most of the major East and West Coast Nerf groups. He currently resides in Richmond, Virginia.

His contributions to the community are as many as they are varied, but his early claim to fame was creating the first Nerf Comic within the Nerf Internet Community called "Nerfaholics" on Nerf Online (NO) and its later reincarnation "Death by Foam" on Nerf Haven (NH). Within the past five years he has established himself as one of the most traveled and respected Nerfers within the community, attending a large number of wars throughout 2005 to the present on both the East and West coasts. He currently holds the record for the most times an East Coast Nerfer has attended the main annual West Coast Summer Nerf war, Armageddon.

He leads a makeshift team of East Coasters (also known as the East Coast Contingent) out every summer to Armageddon, which requires a good deal of both time and money investments as plane tickets must be purchased in order to attend. He is also responsible for the first video documentary involving said trek to California for Armageddon, which is known as "Chronicles of an East Coast Nerfer." He is also responsible for the introduction of customized Nerf "Jerseys," which was originally introduced back in early 2005. Though he himself does not organize many events, he has been asked to attend wars by notable groups such as the Lawn Chair Mafia, the Horsemen, UMD Nerf Apocalypse Society, and Foam Warriors of Presbyterian College.

Preferred Weapons

While he considers himself more-so a promoter of the sport aspect of the hobby within the community than anything else, Groove has managed to contribute something minor in the way of modifications/integrations. Looking to create a versatile combination of long range accuracy with a medium-short range punch, he created the first widely-known "compound" integration known as the Guru. Rather than implementing the innards of one gun into the shell of another, he fused two blaster shells together as one.

The design itself is very simple; it sports a combination of modifications and methods gathered from a variety of people and sources from within the NIC such as cxwq's Splitfire mod and Rawray7's Crossbow mod. It features a heavily modified Crossbow (a slightly modified version of Rawray7's mod) with a trimmed shell to fit a Splitfire beneath the main barrel. It holds a strong likeness to the M4A1 with a "Masterkey" shotgun system (which was used as inspiration). He currently uses the second version of the Guru, with improved internal stability, reinforcement, as well as several other improvements upon the original design. In 2007 he began using a sidearm, a brassed 1st generation Nite Finder that has been trimmed down and minimized to be kept in a drop holster on his right thigh.

Style of Play

On the field, he is most widely known for his accuracy and placement of long range shots with his weapon of choice (the Guru). In April of 2007 after the East Coast Nerf Out (ECNO), Evil stated that Groove was one of "the greatest nerfers he has ever had the privilege of playing with," and one of the "best he's seen on the East Coast." He enjoys the opportunity to play both with and against his good Nerf friends such as One Man Clan, members of the Lawn Chair Mafia, VACC, Famine and the other Horsemen, as well as West Coast Nerfers such as cxwq and Spoon. He is a firm believer in strong teamwork, group tactics, and enjoys challenging situations.

Other / Miscellaneous

Groove has also served on staff for a couple of Nerf websites, including Nerf Online and Nerf Haven. It was Nerf Online where he made contact with several other Notable Nerfers within the NIC including Spoon, cxwq, Vacc, Evil, and The Infinite Shindig. He was a founding member of Nerf Haven, and although he does not maintain his comic "Death by Foam" anymore, he still remains there as an active administrator. He is currently working on a project with One Man Clan where he will be designing and selling NerfSTRONG bracelets as well as customized Nerf T-shirts.
