Started by Groove in late 2007, NerfSTRONG began as a parody of the many wristband campaigns seen in popular culture today, such as Lance Armstrong's LiveSTRONG campaign. Instead of raising awareness for medical conditions or for a righteous cause, they merely served as a device to get more people interested in the hobby and sport. The first ten prototypes were sold at the Fall DCNO of 2007, with more being produced to sell at a later date.
These bright orange wristbands are engraved with the words "NerfSTRONG" around the outside and are made of 100% high quality silicone (same material used by the actual LiveSTRONG wristbands). The wristbands serve no real purpose and no real charitable contributions are made unlike the many other rubber wristbands on the market today.
